The roofing sub-contractors started work to fit the zinc sheeting to the pitched roof on the west side. When they have finished, they will move to the east slope, continue to the flat roof and then the‘gable-ends’.
The delivery and installation of the windows sees the next milestone completed. The windows will remain covered for now to protect them from any damage. The gap beside them will have an acoustic louvre system which will allow natural ventilation through acoustic baffles, with a close-panel as a shutter.
The Geothermal (Ground-source) heating and cooling system is nearing completion. There is a base plant which passes the geothermally-heated water through heat pumps. These act like a refrigerator in reverse and take heat to the radiators or air-displacement heating system. Alternatively for cooling the main auditorium, the heat pumps work the other way round and pass excess heat to the ground.
There are now nearly 50 workers on site each day, with ‘brickies’ arriving from Poole, and other sub-contractors from Yeovil, Romsey, Cheddar, and Taunton.
The main focus now is to get the roofing and building watertight before any autumn rains begin!
