Last Tuesday we hosted our second annual History of Art Teachers' Conference, which was attended by nine teachers from across the south of England.
We had an excellent day sharing knowledge and ideas about our new syllabus and the first exam results from this summer. Sherborne Girls History of Art department is a flagship nationally for this subject and it is great to attract a good number of colleagues from other well-established schools and some new centres too.
Head of the department, Jonathan has worked alongside the charity Art History in Schools in London where he has trained new teachers, and we are now known as an excellent centre for our training, resources, and teaching methods. It has been wonderful to receive some fantastic feedback:
I can’t thank you enough for the conference and your generosity when sharing ideas and resources. It was a privilege to meet and listen to such experienced and knowledgeable teachers; there really is no substitute for spending time together and working face to face in such a purposeful way. I finished the day feeling very positive and enthusiastic and now feel much more confident about teaching the subject. Your input and support will have a profound influence on the way I teach.
Thank you again for all you do to support us; I really appreciate your help that has given me a fresh approach and start to the year.
It has been an incredibly useful day for me, a huge amount of worry has been cleared up, and generally being around other teachers from the subject has had a profoundly calming and motivating influence for me.
