Now that TEDxSherborne has revealed who will present talks at its inaugural event on 9 May 2019, Sherborne Girls is very proud to confirm that sixth-former Chloë Dick is one of the 14 selected speakers.
The speakers, who range from a world-renowned travel writer to a mental health advocate, a Member of Youth Parliament for Dorset to a pioneering social worker, will each address a different aspect of the overall theme for the event, ‘Fit for the Future, People and Place.’
Tony Cooke, Licensee and Chair, TEDxSherborne, commented:
“The enthusiasm with which the local community has embraced TEDxSherborne has been amazing. We are thrilled by the extraordinary quality and diversity of our chosen speakers – all of whom have strong links to the area – and are looking forward to sharing their ‘ideas worth spreading’ with the town and its people at the inaugural TEDxSherborne on 9 May (and with the TEDx community and the wider world thereafter).”
Before joining Sherborne Girls, where she is currently studying for her International Baccalaureate, Chloë was a student at the British International School of New York, and a pupil at Sherborne Prep. She will speak on the topic of the importance of conservation and how local communities can work together to improve biodiversity from Dorset to Africa.
Chloë said:
“I’m thrilled to have this fantastic chance to present on a topic I feel so passionate about, and am looking forward to the event. I’m sure I will learn so much from the other speakers and the whole experience of participating with the TEDx organisation will be amazing!”
TEDxSherborne is being held at the newly constructed Sherborne Girls Arts Centre, and tickets – which cost just £30, including lunch and refreshments – are available by clicking here
TEDxSherborne is part of the global TED community that believes in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives, communities and, ultimately, the world. The independent event is being organised by local volunteers, working closely with the town’s schools and organisations and with the generous pro bono help of local professionals.
