The Art and Design Department at Sherborne Girls is delighted to welcome Georgina Clapham as Artist in Residence.
Born in Somerset, Georgina is a figurative painter. She graduated from The Glasgow School of Art in 2016 and has since studied at the Royal Drawing School in London. Her work has been exhibited across the UK including shows at the Royal Scottish Academy and The Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts. In 2018 she held her first solo show, ‘Mythologies and Metamorphoses’ in Moscow at the Triumph Gallery.
Her style draws together Renaissance portraiture, Greek Mythology, folklore, mysticism, animals, nature, the artificial, high fashion, subculture, gender, identity and sexuality, to produce her meticulous life-size, figurative paintings.
Working under the direction of Head of Department Claire Mason, Georgina will be offering support and tutoring to pupils in the art department, using her own experience and skills to help refine and improve the girls’ work over the Spring and Summer Terms.
She is also currently working on pieces for an exhibition with the current SCAS Intern at Sherborne School, Braden Maxwell, which will take place in The Merritt Centre from 24 February 2020.
