Based in the picture-postcard market town of Sherborne in north-west Dorset, our location is steeped in heritage with gorgeous medieval properties, a magnificent Abbey and the Sherborne family of schools all nestled in the beautiful Dorset countryside. Within easy travelling distance of London with direct train links to Waterloo, a choice of local airports and easy access to the A303 and A30 we think we have the best of all worlds.

Joining Sherborne Girls

All new staff are given a full induction and support to ensure a smooth transition for all.

We recognise the value of staff wellbeing, which we promote by encouraging a strong work-life balance, trying our best to support flexible working requests, providing nutritious food choices, offering discounted rates to Oxley Sports Centre and access to LifeWorks. We also encourage an open culture throughout our School.

We have a good mix of both experienced staff, whilst still attracting those new to education who bring fresh ideas.

Our staff make a full commitment to the School’s full boarding ethos.  Our teaching staff undertake occasional weekend duties, make a significant contribution to the pastoral side of the school, including tutorial duties and liaison with a boarding house, and contribute towards the co-curricular provision of the school.   We encourage our support staff to be continuously engaged in their role by providing opportunities to participate in the wider life of our School, such as taking part in trips or societies and involvement in projects.

Teacher of English (maternity cover)

Sherborne Girls has a fantastic reputation for academic excellence and a high-performing English department. The appointed English teacher will have the ability to inspire pupils with an imaginative and creative approach to teaching. Experience of teaching GCSE and A Level courses is essential.

This post is a fixed term contract. The ideal candidate would be available to start in April 2025 for 1 year.

Housemistress/master

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate, dedicated, and inspirational Housemistress/master (HM) to join Sherborne Girls from August 2025 for our Year 13 boarding house, Mulliner.

If you are someone who thrives on creating nurturing, positive and caring boarding environments where every pupil feels happy, safe and welcome, then this could be the role for you.

The key role of the HM is to ensure the academic and pastoral progress of pupils in their care. This is a hugely rewarding job with considerable responsibility, offering much scope for individual initiative within a strong, supportive and dynamic House team.

The HM is a middle management position within a School where 90% of the girls are full boarders and would suit those aspiring to Senior Leadership positions in the future.

Applications are welcome from those currently holding similar roles as well as those looking to progress from alternative pastoral roles. Any teaching subject within the Sherborne Girls curriculum will be considered.

Head of Mathematics

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dynamic Head of Mathematics to join Sherborne Girls from September 2025.

The Mathematics department at Sherborne Girls has a strong focus on the future of Mathematics in the School and is keen to maintain the extremely high level of results both at IGCSE and A Level. Mathematics is one of the most popular subjects with pupils choosing to study the subject at A Level, including an option to study Further Maths.

The successful candidate will have strong management skills, a flexible and imaginative approach and be responsible for the strategic development of the faculty.
