Boarding

As a leading, single-sex, full boarding school we are proud of our diverse house communities and the warm home-from-home atmosphere.

At Sherborne Girls we have a long-standing commitment to full boarding with approximately 90% of our pupils boarding, making our weekends just as busy and lively as our weekdays. Day pupils are fully integrated into the boarding life of the school, often coming in for breakfast and remaining in school for supper and prep. Our pupils are known as individuals and our staff are committed to supporting each girl’s personal development. Our family-friendly ethos ensures that a strong partnership is created between our experienced pastoral staff and the families of our girls to create the right balance between school and family time.

Our in-house dining facilities are at the centre of the boarding houses, creating a nurturing, homely, bespoke feel as the girls come together as a family at mealtimes throughout the day and eat alongside the resident staff and matron. This creates multiple pastoral touch points where each girl can be supported and her individual needs met. We are proud that our pupils learn adult skills at a young age and we believe that our full boarding ethos cultivates this, enabling our pupils to leave us, at the end of the U6, ready and equipped to face the next chapter of their lives.

Through boarding, our girls are given the tools to learn how to be more resilient and ready to face life after school and there is nowhere better than Sherborne Girls to do this.

If in any doubt, please do come and visit us. The dedicated and highly-experienced House staff and the girls would be only too pleased to show off their school. They are excellent ambassadors but be warned - every girl will say her House is the best in School!

Jessica Briggs, Senior Deputy Head (Pastoral)
