Sixth Form student Mrinalini Somani leads a trip to Mumbai for her annual charity concert at the Royal Opera House, Mumbai.

In 2013 Mrin created We Make it Count, a musical charity event to raise funds for talented children at the Salaam Bombay Academy of Arts (SBAA). SBAA is a refuge for children whose lives are bereft of opportunities, creative spaces and personal attention.

The Academy addresses the lack of vocational skills by providing world-class training in dance, music, theatre and the creative arts while identifying talent and giving children the opportunity to develop it. Children are equipped with skills to work part-time if required without dropping out of school. To date 2,325 children have gone through the program which provides long-term career opportunities that are otherwise unavailable to these children.

In August Mrin will travel to Mumbai with five other girls from Sherborne to perform alongside the young artists from SBAA. The concert is a fundraiser for annual scholarships to the Academy which last year raised more than £50,000.

"WE not only changed the lives of Salaam Bombay children, but ours as well. We are more aware of and thankful for all that we have been blessed with." - Mrinalini Somani
