Following the announcement of its excellent results at A Level and IB, Sherborne Girls is delighted to share another outstanding performance at I/GCSE. This is the culmination of a very successful year for the school in which it also celebrated a double excellent rating in its Educational Quality Inspection.

Huge congratulations to this year’s GCSE students who, despite the backdrop of examination reform, change and uncertainty, have achieved the best results the school has seen in recent years. This year, over 65% of all I/GCSE papers were awarded an A* or A grade, 32% of papers were awarded A* and 89% A*-B.

Sherborne Girls is particularly proud of the breadth of achievement with a quarter of girls achieving 6 or more A* grades and over half achieving 8 or more A*/A grades.

Special mentions go to straight A* students: Natasha Linhart and Hannah Shirley who both achieved an outstanding 12 A* grades including an A* with Distinction for Further Maths. Matilda (Tilly) Fender also achieved a full set of 9 A* while Ashley Lai scored 10* and 2A grades, Alice Richards 9A*s, Janice Sui 9A*s including A* with Distinction in Further Maths and Emile Tubbs 9A*s.

Commenting on the results, Headmistress Jenny Dwyer said, “I am very proud of all our girls who worked so hard to achieve these excellent results and to the staff for their support. These results are especially impressive given that so many of the girls are involved in a wide range of other activities including Sport, Music, Drama and Duke of Edinburgh at a very high level. I am sure that the hard work and commitment the girls have demonstrated at I/GCSE, along with their breadth of interests and talents, will ensure they go on to enjoy even greater success in the Sixth Form, where they can choose to follow either A Levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma.”

Sherborne Girls has a very strong academic core, with all girls doing either three separate sciences or the double science award, English Language and English Literature, Maths, at least one language and Religious Studies. The results in core subjects were outstanding with 70% of girls achieving A*/A in English. The school’s success in STEM subjects continues with 80% of girls achieving A*/A in separate sciences and Further Maths IGCSE. They also performed well in languages and the arts. In particular, girls achieved a 100% A*-A success rate in Chinese and Music.

The school is excited to be increasing its facilities in the arts with a stunning new performing arts centre which is due to be completed next year. The new Arts Centre, located at the heart of the campus, will comprise a new recital hall with 350 fixed seats (or capacity for 560 as a lecture theatre); conversion of the current music centre to create a new drama school; a link building joining music, drama and art as well as providing attractive display space to showcase talented artists; and a multifunctional social space for a range of events from guest speakers and exhibitions to match teas and social events.
