Seven Sherborne Girls head for Oxford and Cambridge

Following a double excellent rating in its recent inspection, Sherborne Girls in Dorset is now celebrating the announcement of this year’s A Level and IB results.

The performance of the girls as a year group is outstanding. Combining A Level and IB scores, over 50% of grades achieved by Sherborne Girls this year are A*/A or 7/6, compared to the national figure of 26.3%. 76% of grades are A*-B or 7-6 and 16% of grades are A* or 7.

The girls achieved an average UCAS Tariff score per student equivalent to A*, A, A at A Level, and over a quarter of girls got 3 or more A* or A grades or equivalent.

These outstanding results have secured the girls a crop of fantastic university places, including offers from top Russell Group universities. Seven girls will be taking up places at Oxbridge in September: Mary Butler to read English at Cambridge; Beatrice Marchegiani, Computer Science at Oxford; Emily Pope, Classics at Oxford; Blanca Rivero, History and Politics at Oxford; Teresa Feng, Natural Sciences at Cambridge; Emily Westlake, Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford; and Rosanna Miller, Classics at Oxford. Rosanna scored 100% in 5 out of her 8 A Level papers for Latin and Greek.

Headmistress Jenny Dwyer, commenting on the results, said, “We are delighted with our A Level and International Baccalaureate results and the fact that the vast majority of girls have achieved their first choice of university place. These results are particularly impressive given the challenging circumstances of reformed syllabuses, tougher assessment criteria, and reduced coursework.  I am incredibly proud of the girls for their hard work and commitment and for doing their very best, as well as of the staff at Sherborne Girls for their care, inspiration, and unwavering support.

Local successes to Sherborne include Frances Budd who scored an impressive 43 points at IB, Rosanna Miller who scored A*, A* A securing her place at Oxford and Robyn Carty who scored A*, A, B and will go on to read Anthropology at Durham.
