Latest statistics reveal that, for the seventh year in a row, there is yet another rise in the number of people sleeping rough on our streets.

Determined to both highlight and support the plight of the homeless, Sherborne Girls is backing two of its Upper Sixth students, Jenny Guy and Charlie Maynard who, along with Sixth Form tutor, Jennifer Nelson, joined the Alabare ‘Big Sleep’ at Salisbury Cathedral on Friday 2 February.

They linked up with other young people for his event to brave the chilly temperatures and sleep outside in the open cloisters at the Cathedral.  Whilst Jenny, Charlie and their peers know that this will provide them with just a snapshot of what it’s like to sleep rough across Salisbury, Wiltshire and Dorset, they are committed to supporting the Alabare charity and to making a difference to the homeless cause, today and in the future.

Jennifer Nelson, who is also a voluntary Alabare Chaplain, explained:  “As they grow through their final year in the Sixth Form, this experience will help them to understand the plight of those facing significant challenges who subsequently find themselves homeless.

"Along with many charities across Dorset supporting the homeless, as a schooSixtl, we also look to make a difference and fully support the work being done by alabare.  We wish Jenny and Charlie the best of luck for Friday!"
