Everything’s coming up roses at Sherborne Girls this Valentine’s Day thanks to a charitable idea devised by Lower Sixth students.

The girls have decided to ‘share the love’ with two chosen charities: Motor Neurone Association and Médecins Sans Frontières by selling roses to the whole school community based from their rose ‘HQ’ in Kenelm Boarding House.

Orders have been flooding in from across the Sherborne Schools including the boys’ school and Sherborne International with students looking to show friends and family that they thinking of them while they are at boarding school.

‘Kenelm Roses’ is a school tradition which is remembered with great affection and dates back more than 30 years but it is more recently that the girls have twinned it with a charity element.

Having created a Just Giving page https://www.justgiving.com/teams/kenelmroses2018 this year’s Lower Sixth set themselves a target of raising £400, but have been overwhelmed by support with the total pledged standing at well over £1,000.

Fran Barnes, Housemistress at Kenelm, explained: “The whole initiative has been driven by the Lower Sixth girls with special mention going to Annabel Mortimer and Serena Mundy.  They have worked together brilliantly leading the team to source the roses, set up the fundraising and publicise it across the school. They were absolutely committed to supporting these two charities and I’m thrilled that their charitable efforts have been so successful – well done girls!”
