This has been a very successful week in sport at Sherborne Girls. Apart from our regular fixtures, four Sherborne Girls’ athletes, Araminta Stubbs, Daisy Baker, Christa Cripwell and Marianna Sawyer, all ran exceptionally well at the South West Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday to gain selection in the English Schools Cross Country Championships which will be held in Leeds in March.

In addition to this, there has been a push to elevate our strength in the racket sports this year and our squash team has been the first to respond. With the introduction of regular squash coaching and challenging fixtures we have exceeded our expectations by winning our quarter-final match against a strong Downe House team this week. We now progress through to the Finals of the National Schools Cup which will be played in Nottingham in March. Congratulations to Tilly Scull, Tamsin Morgan, Amelia Etherington, Eliza Gilmour and Isabella Orr on such a fantastic effort and result.

Last week we also saw 21 girls from a variety of schools attend the Sherborne Girls 11+ and 13+ Sports Scholarships Day.

It is a very exciting time at Sherborne Girls as we will be shortly introducing an enhanced Sports Scholarships programme which will offer our girls a higher level of sporting education, experience and service.

Building on our existing programme of coaching and strength & conditioning, the inclusion of education in sports science, sports nutrition, injury reduction, sports psychology and our improved links with various clubs, performance pathways and sporting institutions, Sherborne Girls will be in a position to offer an even higher quality Sports Scholarship programme.

Yet again the quality of the girls who attended the Scholarships Day was very high and we wish them all the very best of luck in their sporting future.
