As a result of a TED talk in 2013 EdClub was created by a group of students at a school in Dorset. They set up a pilot project in Huruma slum, Nairobi forming an educational link with children in the surrounding slums. This programme has now spread to a number of independent schools including Sherborne Girls. U6 student Rosie Hudson spearheaded the EdClub Movement 18 months ago ensuring that six mentors joined the initiative. The girls skyped students in Huruma weekly giving support with school subjects including English, Maths and Science.

In January 2018 devastation struck the Huruma slum when 12 homes were destroyed in a fire. With support from the school, Rosie and her team of mentors made it their mission to raise funds for EdClub to rebuild the homes. This week a sign honouring Sherborne Girls' donation was erected in Huruma by a family who lost their home in the fire.

In 2019, six mentors have signed up for the programme and will continue the work of the previous cohort.
