Our Academic Education

Sherborne Girls is extremely proud of its broad and enriching curriculum which offers innovative academic education with a strong emphasis on developing an enquiring mind, instilling a good work ethic and striving for excellence.

Our curriculum addresses the school values of academic excellence, community responsibility, leadership, and developing pupils as women of the future. 

The curriculum incorporates the development of life skills including self-confidence, emotional and creative intelligence for successful current and future leaders, communicators, performers, and good citizens. The developing brain can be trained in many directions and maintaining a breadth of experiences is an important part of the stretch that a young girl needs.

Our curriculum caters for an all-round education with a highly academic focus.

• For girls aged 11-14, (Years 7 – 9), our focus is on academic exploration, investigation and instilling a love of learning.
• At GCSE (Years 10 -11), our curriculum provides a real opportunity for pupils to develop a range of skills and competencies as defined in our school values. We provide pupils with some choice regarding academic areas of focus.
• In the Sixth Form, our list of A Level subjects and academic enrichment options offers breadth of opportunity with continued academic excellence, extended by our unique collaboration with Sherborne School.

As we operate as a boarding school, we can extend our provision beyond the confines of the classroom and usual school day, blending the co-curricular with curricular for an enriched learning experience.

We have designed the shape of our school week to recognise the daily sleep, nutritional needs, relaxation and social time, as well as the academic and creative needs of our pupils. This is unique and special to Sherborne Girls.

Our individualised approach to teaching and learning ensures that every pupil is encouraged and inspired to develop healthy habits of learning, intellectual curiosity and range of interests that last a lifetime.

Since the implementation of our Digital Strategy in 2018, Sherborne Girls has continued to enhance teaching and learning, adopting the latest technologies, as appropriate. We are ambitious in our desire to inspire our pupils and to equip them with the skills required for their future lives as well as exemplify the best of teaching and learning in the world.
